This is my first blog post, and I am extremely excited as I start to explore the world of nutrition and cooking, aiming to make some positive and long-lasting changes to my health and the way I eat.
I do have a plan and I have a goal, but I am prepared to be very flexible and change as I go along, since the person I am now, cannot see everything I will see in the future. What I know now, can only take me so far. As with all learning, I will rely on some things becoming clearer and even visible as I progress. Then I will be able to make better choices.
My interest in healthy eating came purely by chance when I happened upon a book by Michael Pollan a few years ago; “In Defense of Food”.
I had no idea who he was, nor did I understand what healthy eating was. His book had an impact on my thinking but it didn’t really change the way I ate.
I am not sure why, but that is something I aim to uncover in the coming months.
The manifesto of the book though is worth sharing, if you haven’t already heard it. It’s a great piece of advice;
Eat food, not too much, mostly plants!
Easy, right? To be honest, that sounds like all the information we will ever really need. If we can follow that, I suspect we will be pretty much ok. The challenge is, ‘following’ it!
